Day Twenty-two from Melissa - King Lear

First, let me apologize for any non-clarity in yesterday's post. Actually, all the posts, but yesterday's in particular. I was falling asleep as I was writing it, and kept trying to type words on the number keys, or mixing my trains of thought. Finally I just thought, "Forget it," and hit the publish button.

I just get so tired here for some reason.

Today we had class again for the first three hours. I wish I could video tape Dr. Talbot for you - he is the funniest teacher!  His face, his voice, his posture all contribute to his storytelling, and he tells good stories.

Speaking of stories, this might be old news to all of you, but Shakespeare didn't make up the story of King Lear. It was an existing story that he retold.

SPOILERS!

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ KING LEAR, BE AWARE OF SPOILERS!

LOOK FOR MORE CAPS TO MARK WHEN IT'S SAFE TO RETURN.

Apparently in all the other versions, Cordelia doesn't die. So to present this well-known story, only to kill the heroine in the last bit was horrifically shocking to audiences.

SPOILERS OVER. IT IS SAFE TO PROCEED.

Anyway, after class, Miriam and I hand lunch and went on one of the required walks. Sadly, we only got about half done. I wish I weren't so slow. But then, I'm just glad I'm mobile.

We passed this great little pub.

Ha ha, ha.

We did stop in a store and get a ace bandage type thing. It's a little different, but close enough to serve. Up to this point I've been wearing two socks on my bad foot to give it added support and compression. This is much better - I'm wearing it now actually. Paired with my boot I'll be unstoppable.

After assembling lunch, we got on the coach for King Lear.

I don't know if you can tell, but the seats are two wide - it's like a bench seat that sits two. I was glad someone I knew was on the other half of mine.

It was fun seeing a play we'd studied so hard. I felt like I got more out of it than I would have otherwise, especially since more than half of the cast had Scottish accents, and sometimes it got a bit hard to understand. Also, I was able to pick out a few places where lines had been cut from the production.

Well, goodnight!
