Day Sixteen from Melissa - Polperro

Hi, all!

The day started early this morning. I woke up late at 6:15 and just barely made it down to the coach (bus) by 6:45.

Most of the girls fell asleep. I did too, for a while, but there was so much to see and do and read about!

We stopped briefly for gas, and there Miriam found something that took us both way back.

Mmmmmmmh!

My egg surprise - it hatched two gargoyles!  Or would they be grotesques?

At long last, we pulled into a place called Polperro. You see, you're driving through these big rolling hill fields that extend as far as the eye can see, and then you drive down between two of them, and there's a little harbor with a town around it, and the Atlantic.

Don't ask me how all that manages to hide in between hills - it was like a magic trick. I watched very carefully when we left, but I still couldn't tell how they did it.

The gutter between these houses and the street is actually a stream.

One of the streets. They get narrower and narrower. And none of them go straight.

Around to the side of the town, you can walk along the edge of the hill and climb out on the craggy rocks just before they drop into the water. This next picture kind of shows. I made my way up the trail as far as it was level, but then it started to get super rocky, so I reluctantly decided that it was too dangerous.

While waiting, I looked at the flowers. Cecily Mary Barker is my hero, and I knew almost every flower I saw!

Those pink flowers are sea pinks. They can grow in sand or rock or in salty environments or whatever.

After carefully coming back down, we decided ice cream was in order. This is a butterscotch ice cream cone, made with real Cornish clotted cream. Also, I got a dab of clotted cream on the top. That's the yellowish peak. It tastes like unsweetened whip cream, and coats your tongue when you eat it.

Um, so you understand this sign?  It was at the place where we finally bought the scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Very, very tasty!  Apart, the ingredients are okay. Put them together, and they're fabulous.

Somebody has a good sense of humor

And here's the hills closed over it as we left. I could've stayed a very long time.

We're in anothe place now, at the Victoria hotel.

 Our back door view.

Our dinner. Started with crab cakes. Then we had cod and new potatoes and a white chocolate raspberry tart.
