Day Thirteen from Melissa

Most non-interesting post ever. You have been warned.

Nothing happened today. I stayed home from church, shuttled myself to the couch, and worked on assignments. I still hold my calling as Relief Society first counselor from back home, and there was some work I got done regarding that.

I also caught up on my journal and did a little napping. All with my foot held steadily over my heart. Very talented if I do say so myself.

I did get up once. About 11:00, could faintly hear church bells through the closed window, so I got up and stood in the doorway, listening. Church bells are like nothing I've heard before. They all ring on top of each other until you can hardly tell where they begin and end.

This is the view from the floor. I switched it up and lay for a while.

Well, that's about it. Oh, one of our professors, Dr. Talbot, was walking home from church and saw the Queen and her husband drive by!  They were going towards Kensington Palace, which is off because nobody is there right now. William and Kate left for their private home a few days ago.

So, what was she doing?  We don't know. Talk about intrigue!

Dinner was very good.

We eat well here. The chef tries a new thing every night, which is really fun because I like trying new things. If it's not tasty, then I only have to eat it that once. If it's really good, they might have leftovers in the fridge for the next day. So it's a win win situation!

We finished off the day by skyping Mom for Mother's Day. She is amazing. I hope you all know that!

Now, a lot of people have been asking how I'm doing with a broken foot in a walking city. The professors are concerned because we have a big hike at the end of this week, as well as Tintagel castle to explore. Also, there's the concern about maneuvering here in London, which is basically a pedestrian city. Wheeled things aren't a good option, because there are stairs everywhere. My room is two floors up, and I only know of one subway station near me with an elevator - and it's on the wrong line for most destinations.

Then there's the concern regarding energy. Doing anything now takes at least twice as much, and often I'm shaking with effort after a mundane thing like climbing up the stairs or walking a block.

I've discovered something though. While I feel like Gus-Gus looking up the stairs in Disney's Cinderella if I look at the big picture, when I focus on one step at a time, I can do all kinds of things. It won't be easy, but I am not going to give in that easy. I'm not a fool, I'm not going to endanger myself or others, but neither am I the kind of person to roll over and give up. So don't worry about me. Prayers still appreciated - I'll need as much help as I can get - but it's going to be fine.

I just need to do a better job of planning ahead to make my life easier.

  1. The bus is a good option to the Tube when you just cannot do any more stairs.
